L.A.-ified

I had a total LA weekend. It was fun, but I was reminded of how expensive it is here...and have promised myself I won't have another weekend like it until I get a job. Here's a recap.

On Friday I returned home, from my last day as a PA on Solitary 2, and found that my roommate Lauren and her friend Will had decided to throw an impromtu dinner party. Both of them are great cooks and like to try new recipes, so it's definitely exciting when they get in the kitchen. About 10 people came. We managed to squeeze everyone in at the the ghetto folding table I'd set up in the dining room, and we all sat around eating tomatoes and fancy cheese and drinking wine. It was fun, but the best way to descibe Lauren and her group of friends is "a gaggle of girls." They all talk a lot, are very loud, and it's hard to get a word in. It's fortunate I don't mind sitting back and just observing.

On Saturday night, my boss from Solitary was having a birthday party, but I had nothing to wear. So, Amalia(one of the girls from the gaggle who works for Playboy) and I decided to go shopping. We went to Glendale Mall, did alittle shopping, then met up with Bridget at the Nordstroms Cafe for lunch. As Amalia and I were leaving the mall after a tasty but pricey soup and sandwich, she mentioned we should get pedicures sometime. I told her I'd never had one, and the next thing I knew we were at a "pedicure saloon". I went with the French pedicure, so now I have pretty toes with white tips...too bad I don't really have any open-toed shoes.

The party ended up being pretty fun. I was proud that I went by myself. It was at a karaoke bar, and alot of my coworkers from Solitary were there. Its always interesting to see what people are like outside of work. There was talk of an after-party at some exclusive Hollywood bar(the reason why I felt the need for a new outfit), but the party ended up just staying at the same place all night.

On Sunday, Lauren and I spent the entire day cooking for the Easter potluck at her sister's house. She made a 9lb leg of lamb, and I made mom's Garden Pizza. Around 5, we headed to the party in our Easter best...Lauren somehow managed to convince me to where a vintage, blue pastel dress. Perfect for Easter, I suppose. Plus, the only shoes I had to match were very high-heeled shoes. At the end of the evening, as I was standing barefoot because my feet hurt, a cute boy complimented my toes. SCORE!

There was a ton of food at the potluck, and the main attraction was the Easter egg hunt where the hosts filled plastic eggs full of vodka, and you took a shot as you found an egg. I found one, and that was enough for me. After the potluck, we headed home and remembered that our neighbor, who is a friend of Lauren's boyfriend Clark, was also having a party. We stopped by, and I met my first celeb. Vinnie from Entourage. I participated in a midnight egg-toss on the street, and then I called it a night.

So...I thought my weekend would end there, but it didn't. On Monday afternoon, Lauren, Clark, Amalia and I decided to go for brunch and Bloody Mary's. Of course no one counted on the fact that it was Monday and most brunch places aren't open on weekedays. We ended up at Castaway, a country club restaurant at a golf course overlooking Burbank. It was nice, but very stereotypical old-person country club...which was the point of going there. Think salad bar with iceberg lettuce, beets and baby corn...and then randomly, caviar. The Bloody Mary's were good though.

Monday night was my first book club meeting. I joined through Dana, a friend from Austin that has since relocated to LA. We read Black Like Me...it was interesting. The meetings are themed after the book, and this book takes place in the south. I was running low on time, so I made Peach Cobbler from a box. It was delicious, and Dana lied and told everyone it was homemade. I thought the night was over around 10 when I got home from book club, but around midnight Christina showed up on my doorstep with a bottle of Jack and ready to watch a movie. Seemed like a good ending to the weekend.

Now I gotta get back into the job hunt again! wish me luck.

It sounds like you had the kind of week-end that you've been looking for. I liked the part where you did some cooking and went to a book club. Viva la Easter week-end!
