killing time

I'm finally starting to feel used to this crazy schedule, and I've only got 2 nights of it left.
I've got nothing to do until 4:30am, so I'm on the computer. It's so weird because some of the girls I work with gossip alot about celebrities...but they talk about them like they are "real people"....which makes sense since they know people who know people...or even sometime know people themselves.
It's weird to be reminded that celebrities are actually people too.

i'm tired and want a weekend

Wow...a lot has happened in the past week. The first and most exciting is that I bought a new car! Crazy. The van kept breaking and was stressing me out, and to work in LA I felt like I needed something reliable with decent gas mileage. So, I bought a brand new 07 Chevy Aveo. I like it cuz it's little and looks European. The only bad part is my insurance went way up.

Next on the list is...I got a job. It's only short-term, but hopefully I'm making some contacts and will be able to get more work. I'm working as a PA(production assistant) on a reality TV show called Solitary. Basically, 10 people get put in these little pods where they have to stay for 10 day, complete challenges, get eliminated, etc... Since it's a round-the-clock show, there has to be a night-shift...ususally 8pm - 8am...and that's where I come in. This whole week I've been an office PA...making runs, typing paperwork, helping on set when needed, but tonight through Sunday I've been bumped up to a Casting PA. It's not really a promotion cuz I still get paid the same, but it's definitely a little more responsibility. It's been alright, although tiring...and leaves absolutely no room to do anything other than work and sleep. It's a good thing it's only short-term.

Maybe next week after the show is over, I'll get to go out and do some fun stuff.

St. Patrick's Day in LA

I've been staying busy. A birthday party on Friday, then a St. Patrick Day's feast on Saturday. My roommate Lauren likes to cook...so she had a dinner party. Corned Beef, cabbage, potatoes, Irish sodabread and Irish car bombs. Some of her friends brought Sheperd Pie. Another of her friends was in charge of decorations. Apparently they have lots of holiday parties and she always makes hats....but she only know how to make a pilgrim hat. So she made the pilgrim hat in green...I guess it was kinda like a leprechan.

Everthing was really good...but the coolest part was all the green everywhere. I think every party should be color-themed.
there was lots of food. above is my plate. below is the meat!!

No internet sucks....but I'm here

I have no internet at my house. It sucks. I’m gunna have to look into getting it….I need my late-night surfing. I think both my roommates are up for splitting the cost...so hopefully by the end of this week I'll be able to sit in my room and use the computer. It’s an addiction.

On the plus side, it’s given me plenty of time to get unpacked….and now to write this blog(which I’ll post tomorrow from the coffeeshop.) I’ve also made a virtual tour of my house…quite a task, since I’m not as Photoshop savvy as I’d like.

So…first my favorite thing to read and write. A list of sights on my cross country drive.

-Driving through New Mexico, in the distance I see what looks like a tornado. It’s really faint, but big, and at first I think it’s just my eyes playing tricks on me. I continue to look at it and watch it move across the desert…away from me fortunately. I finally figure out that it’s a giant dust devil…and right about then it disappears.

-In Arizona, I see a cowboy out on his horse herding cattle. If that’s not good enough, about a ½ down the highway, I see another cowboy walking his horse…and he was wearing chaps!! (yes kyle, he had pants on underneath them)

-When I entered California, I had to drive through the Mojave desert. Along the sides of the highway, there was all this volcanic rock(or at least that’s what it looked like). There were all these words written with the pieces of black rock on the white sand. I was going to fast to actually read any of it, but I bet some of it had been there for a really long time. I really wanted to stop and leave my mark…but there wasn’t really any good place to pull over.

-As I drove through the San Bernardino National Forest, I thought to myself “This looks like pictures of Hawaii, where the clouds come down around the mountains….except I’m not in Hawaii, and the slight brown tinge to these clouds remind they aren’t clouds…but smog.” It was pretty gross.

-Getting closer to LA, on the opposite side of the 12-lane highway, there was a car pulled over by about 5 police cars. Behind the 1st police car, there a bunch of policemen…with their guns drawn and pointed at the car. Yikes!

But, I made it safe and sound. I even found parking for the van and trailer, so I was able to wait until Friday morning to take the trailer to Christina’s family’s house. It was closer than I remembered and her mom bought us In N’ Out….which was not as good as I remember.

Moving on….now begins the tour of my pad.

This is NOT my house. It is the house in front of my house. To get to mine, you go down a narrow pathway, which is very dark at night.

After to you get down the pathway, you see my cute little house. Not quite as fancy as the fronthouse...but not bad.

I live downstairs. I have my own entrance to my room(not that I use it that much...although, there is a screen door which is nice) and right outside my door is the hot-tub...too bad it's broken! Here is a picture of my room. You'll have to imagine it as a square. Unfortunately, the picture is kinda small and I can't figure out how to make it bigger...but you get the idea.

I can see the Hollywood sign from my deck...but it's too smoggy right now to make a good picture. I guess that just means people will have to come for a visit and see it in person.
I'm going to the library tomorrow where i can spend lots of time on the computer...jobhunting, blogging about my weekend, maybe talking to maggie. Right now though, my battery is almost dead, so I've got to head home.
I also bought a big mirror at a garage sale down the street from my house, so I have to go pick it up.
More soon!

on the road

after realizing that Pat lived 150 miles out of my way, and having the van act alittle funny today, i decided i would keep driving tonight and get a few more miles out of the way.

now i'm in Gallup, NM at a Travelodge. the only room left was the handicap room...which means big bathroom and king size bed...but the guy gave it to me for the specialty price(that was apparently sold-out, according to the sign on the desk) of $32.99. Probably alittle more than i would have spent on gas getting to Pat's, but it helps with time.

i listened to The Pilot's Wife today...i'm pretty sure I'd read it before, it sounded really familiar. i also think i've been drinking too many expired Red Bulls the last few days...my stomach was giving me some problems today and it's probably a good thing i was traveling alone.

good night.

and this is called work?

So, I leave for LA tomorrow. I can't believe it's already time and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. I spent all day packing the van, and in true procrastinator fashion, it's 1:15am and I'm still not done. It's mostly clothes, but I also started thinking "What's the point of keeping this, unless I have it with me....especially the things that belong in my room anyway." Needless to say, I'm taking alittle more than I originally thought. I hope my room really is as big as Mike said.

Luckily I was able to spend most of last week working...and I think the paycheck will just about cover a month' s rent, so that makes me feel alittle more at ease. I spent one day at the Big 12 conference taking pictures of people in front of a green screen...but I think in an 11 hour workday I took about 8 pictures. The next 4 days were spent at the 90th Annual OKC International Car Show. Who would have ever thought I could say I was a "Promotional Model" at a Car Show! I drove around an off-road course made up of 1000 tons of dirt in a Toyota 4x4. It was pretty rad. Plus I got to see some pretty cool cars.

I have a weekend of partying ahead of me...a birthday party and a St. Patrick's Day party. It's always interesting to receive an email from a roommate you don't know, inviting you to a party at your own house.

Looking on the bright side...

Another Saturday night in Norman, OK...it's 2AM, I've spent the last 5 hours on the computer playing some stupid game, and now I'm going to bed. I think this week I had people flake-out on me 5 out of the 6 times I've made plans. Although to give Meredith credit..tonight's flake-out was a mutual one and only occurred because we both knew campus would be boring, and our earlier plans of going to Club Rodeo didn't sound so appealing once it was just the two of us going. And people wonder why I want to leave here....if I didn't have a job next week, and still need to get the van checked out, I'd be gone on Monday.

However, there are a few good things about being stuck in Norman with nothing to do.
1. If I don't go out, I don't spend the money I don't have.
2. I've gotten a lot of quality time in with the parents. I've gone horseback riding and geocaching with Mom, and watched a few movies with Dad. I've eaten dinner with them almost every night...and we went out for Dad's birthday.
3. I've also spent a lot of quality time with Lenny.
4. I've been able to make another stripe for the blanket I'm knitting.
5. I got so bored, I gave in and cut my nails so I could play my guitar.
6. I've finished Maggie's taxes, and almost finished mine....if only Christina would send me the info I need.
7. I'm sbsolutely positive that I won't feel like i'm missing out on anything once I leave here.
